The Department of Statistics at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is proud to announce that Bo Yuan has been recognized with a 2025 Distinguished Student Paper Award by the Section on Statistics in Genomics and Genetics (SSGG) of the American Statistical Association. This award celebrates methodological innovations and novel applications of statistical and computational methods in addressing challenges in genetics and genomics.

Bo is a fourth-year doctoral student and is advised by Professor Shulei Wang of the Department of Statistics. Bo’s award-winning paper, titled Microbiome Data Integration via Shared Dictionary Learning, was a collaborative effort with Professor Wang.

As part of the recognition, Bo will present this work at the 2025 Joint Statistical Meetings (JSM) in Nashville, Tennessee. The JSM conference, one of the largest gatherings of statisticians and data scientists worldwide, provides an excellent platform for innovative research and professional connections.
