Statistics Ambassadors are current students who represent the Department of Statistics and help connect prospective, admitted, and current students with the department’s academic programs and student experience. Ambassadors serve as knowledgeable, approachable points of contact, sharing first-hand perspectives on coursework, student life, and opportunities within Statistics at Illinois.
Through outreach, recruitment, and peer engagement, Statistics Ambassadors play an important role in fostering a welcoming, supportive community for students at different stages of their academic journey.
The Department of Statistics offers two ambassador programs:

Why Become a Statistics Ambassador?
Serving as a Statistics Ambassador offers students the opportunity to give back to the department while developing valuable personal and professional skills. Ambassadors gain leadership experience, strengthen communication and networking abilities, and help shape a supportive, student-centered community. The role also provides meaningful opportunities to engage with faculty, staff, and peers while representing the department to future students.
Statistics Undergraduate Ambassadors
Undergraduate Statistics Ambassadors are declared Statistics or Statistics & Computer Science majors who represent the department in recruitment, outreach, and mentoring activities. Ambassadors have strong academic backgrounds, a solid understanding of the statistics curriculum, and demonstrate engagement with the department, the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, and the broader campus community.
Undergraduate Ambassadors support prospective and new students, assist with departmental events, and help foster connections among Statistics majors while developing leadership, communication, and professional skills.
Statistics MS Ambassadors
Statistics MS Ambassadors are current master’s students who serve as student representatives for the Department’s MS program in Statistics. This program is designed to connect prospective and admitted graduate students with current MS students who can share insight into coursework, registration, and the overall graduate experience.
While similar in spirit to the Undergraduate Ambassador program, MS Ambassadors focus on graduate-specific outreach and support, helping students navigate academic and professional opportunities within the MS program.
