I came to the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign as a math major, but knew that being a researcher or teacher was not for me! I have always had a love for sports especially baseball (Go Cubs!) and as a kid starting keeping score of Cubs games whenever they were on TV. I never thought that fun hobby would lead to a career as a statistician but here I am many years later with a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Statistics. While I’m not working in the sports industry, I am in an industry that is filled with lots of challenging statistical problems. I started at State Farm as an intern my junior year at the University of Illinois and have been with them ever since. Working for them has allowed me to expand on the statistical principles taught in school while also further developing my critical thinking and communication skills. I can honestly say that I have never regretted majoring in statistics. The people I met and the education I received at U of I both inside and outside the Statistics program is something I will cherish forever.
