Alexandra Chronopoulou, clinical associate professor of Statistics at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, has been selected as one of three inaugural Senior Faculty Fellows for the Alma Project, a campus initiative focused on promoting neighborliness and a sense of purpose through community-engaged learning.
Chronopoulou will receive funding to incorporate these concepts into her existing community-engaged coursework. The selection committee recognized her experience with community-engaged teaching, established community relationships, and ideas for integrating neighborliness into her courses.
Her work connects Statistics students with local nonprofit organizations through statistical consulting, giving students opportunities to apply their skills while supporting organizations in the Champaign-Urbana community. This approach reflects the Alma Project’s goal of building mutually beneficial relationships between Illinois students and their neighbors.
As a Senior Faculty Fellow, Chronopoulou will also help develop resources and tools to support other faculty members in creating community-engaged courses that incorporate neighborliness and a sense of purpose. She joins Ann Abbott of Spanish and Portuguese and Andrew Moss of English as the project’s inaugural Senior Faculty Fellows.
