The Department of Statistics is happy to announce that Jennifer Anderson Bliss, Senior Undergraduate Advisor, has been awarded the Rebecca J. Simon Award for Professional Development.

The Rebecca J. Simon Award supports professional development opportunities for academic advisors and career services professionals. Recipients may receive financial support to offset registration, travel, and lodging expenses associated with attending a conference or other professional development opportunity that will enhance their work with students. The award is funded by a generous gift to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from the estate of Rebecca J. Simon.

Rebecca “Becky” Simon spent her career at Illinois as an academic advisor in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and as Director of the Placement and Undergraduate Advising Office in the School of Chemical Sciences. Becky helped launch the successful careers of thousands of students and was known for her warmth, sense of humor, and generosity. She was also grateful for the support and encouragement she received to provide innovative and effective services, take on leadership roles on campus and nationally, and share her knowledge through conference presentations, seminars, and publications. Her legacy and commitment to professional development continues today through this award.

Anderson Bliss’s recognition highlights her dedication to supporting undergraduate students in Statistics and her ongoing commitment to enhancing advising through professional development.
