The Department of Statistics at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is pleased to announce the search for its next Department Chair. This full-time, tenured position at the rank of Professor offers a unique opportunity for a distinguished scholar and leader to guide one of the nation’s top departments in statistics and data science.

With a dynamic and growing department of nearly 1,000 undergraduate majors, over 200 graduate students, and more than 40 faculty members, the new Chair will provide strategic leadership in research, education, and service. The Chair will be responsible for overseeing faculty recruitment, promoting academic excellence, managing the department’s budget, and fostering interdisciplinary collaborations both within the university and with external partners. The Department of Statistics has a rich tradition of research in areas including statistical theory, methodology, computation, machine learning, and interdisciplinary applications, making it a key contributor to the University of Illinois’ leadership in data science.

The ideal candidate will possess a Ph.D. in a relevant field and qualifications warranting an appointment as a Full Professor. Candidates should demonstrate nationally and internationally recognized scholarship, experience in academic leadership, and a commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion within the department. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, as well as a vision for advancing the department’s academic and research missions, are also essential.

This is a nine-month faculty position with a competitive salary range of $170,000 to $225,000. The successful candidate will receive an administrative stipend and partial teaching release. The target start date for this position is August 16, 2025.
